About

Inclusive Design Consulting was founded by Dr. Laura R. Murphy, principal design consultant.

Laura’s work explores ways to make engineering design processes more empathetic and inclusive so that design outcomes across industries are more inclusive. Her work is informed by disability studies and qualitative front-end design research as well as her prior industry practice in product design and manufacturing supply chains.

Since earning her doctorate in the Design Science program at the University of Michigan studying inclusive engineering design processes, Laura has developed and taught graduate courses on engineering, design, disability, and technology for the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering and School of Information.

Laura earned her PhD from the Design Science program at the University of Michigan. Her dissertation was titled: Pursuing Inclusive Engineering Design: Centering People, Exploring Diverse Perspectives, and Promoting Divergent Thinking. Her Masters and Bachelors degrees are in Mechanical Engineering.
